P and Starling North Island Championship 2010 - Final day

by Kevin Hayton on 25 Oct 2010
Eventual winner Mahia Pepper 2100 buried with a lap to go but still went on to win the race Kevin Hayton

The final day of the 2010 P and Starling North Island Championship was sailed in a light 5-9knts sea breeze, at Napier.

P Class
Final Race: Just to run salt in the wounds when he didn’t need to sail, Isaac McHardie of Hamilton/Tauranga sailed away to his fifth win in a very convincing manner with a 20 point lead over second place. Olivia Mackay won the battle of the two Napier sailors coming second and gaining second place overall by one point from Michael Hayton. Zak Merton from Tauranga finished third his best result of the contest.

Starling
Final Race: After being buried in the mid fleet Mahia Pepper of Murrays Bay worked the wind shifts to perfection to gain the lead mid way through the race which he held onto to the finish keeping him in second place and on equal point but losing on count back. Second was Keith Inglis from Taupo this however was not enough to lift him from his overnight third overall position. In third on the day was Sam Mackay of Napier but this wasn’t enough to lift him from his fourth overall position.
