Monte Carlo Yachts takes out 'Boat of the Year' at Genoa

Sleek, sporty, powerful - I’ll take it! Beneteau http://www.beneteau.com/
Boat of the Year was hotly contested at the Genoa International Boat Show 2010, with newcomer to the market, Monte Carlo Yachts taking out the award at a Gala Event at the Museo Navale Galata in Genoa.

With just two years under its belt, Monte Carlo Yachts claims to 'interpret luxury goods as objects that must be available for use easily and pleasurably, rejecting pure exhibitionism'.

The result is MCY 76, a 23m flybridge, with a winning design and a wealth of innovations and strong technical features that delivered it the much-coveted 'Boat of the Year', run by Vela e Motore, sponsored by SelmaBipiemme Leasing Gruppo Bancario Mediobanca.

MCY 76 has achieved this success unescorted by the history of a successful brand or by a recognisable family pedigree. Monte Carlo Yachts is, in fact, a company created less than two years ago within the Beneteau Group.

With the Monte Carlo range, Beneteau has diversified into a completely new range of powerboats. CAD technology and digital production in the hands of chief designer, Pierangelo Andreani, has given birth to motoryachts characterised by lines and layouts that are distinctly Mediterranean, infused with as he describes it, a 'powerful sports classic' feel.

The designers and development team set to work faced with a blank canvas, ready to go beyond the stylistic boundaries that have somewhat conditioned boatbuilding. Its originators deem the MCY 76 full of innovations that 'create a boat of authentic values, able to sail well and excite boat owners, a boat with a low environmental impact and excellent living spaces'.

The 'Boat of the Year' jury at Genoa was made up of journalists, designers and experts, who awarded the new MCY 76 for its originality of design. Comments centred on its 'naval allure', for its high, wedge-like bow, the the functionality and beauty of the spaces, and great breadth of the design.

Many technological solutions were adopted, some utterly original for the sector: photovoltaic panels sunk in the carbon T-top, the aerospace-derived waste water treatment system, the infusion process extended to all components, the automatic trim search through the use of interceptors, the complex construction process never tried before that eliminates on-board adjustment operations and makes it possible to achieve quality standards of excellence, because the assembly tolerances are precise down to the millimetre.

'Boat of the Year' was accepted by a very proud President of Monte Carlo Yachts, Carla Demaria along with Fabrizio Iarrera, General Manager and the designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard.

'We are very excited about receiving this prize that crowns a season of successes for our new boatyard,' commented Carla Demaria. 'The Boat of the Year Prize is an important recognition of the originality of the design and the splendid work of our team which showed great competency and passion.'

The success of Monte Carlo Yachts is also confirmed by the appreciation of the public from all around the world, with a large number coming on board the MCY 76 during the Genoa International Boat Show.
