Picturesque Taipa Sailing Club now occuppied by Maori SW
Newstalk ZB reports that a Far North yacht club has been occupied by two brothers - nephews of MP Hone Harawira - who are using it as their base of operations for a Treaty protest.
The brothers have moved into the Taipa Sailing Club, which is on land they claim is whenua.
The club's vice-commodore, Darryl Hopkins, says the move has totally shut down the operation of the club, and will potentially end its summer sailing programme. The club leases the land off the Far North District Council and Mr Hopkins says it's up to them to sort the issue out, but he claims the council isn't doing anything and the situation is frustrating.
