Women and men are invited to attend the BIA Vic luncheon event to celebrate Women in Marine Business, with special guest speaker Sail-World Cruising editor, Nancy Knudsen.

The venue will be the Sandringham Yacht Club, midday til 3pm, with a delectable 2-course lunch, the amazing and highly credentialed Nancy Knudsen, plenty of superb raffle prizes, including MAC and YSL cosmetic baskets, La Mer treatments and products, boat shoes, sunglasses and more, as well as gift bags with loads of goodies and fabulous company!

All proceeds will go to The Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre’s project for modifying fishing charter boats for electric wheelchair access.

Nancy is an accomplished sailor, author and journalist, as well as having many accolades and achievements from years working in TV, aviation, tourism and business. She was also Miss Queensland Sungirl and the first woman on TV in Queensland, first reading the news and then compering and producing her own programs.

Nancy branched in to tourism and aviation, founding Aircruising Australia and Bill Peach Journeys. During this time Nancy became the only female chair of a public company in Australia, and was recognised for her acumen with CEO of the Year, Australian representative of World Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and the Telstra/Westpac Women Business Owner of the Year awards.

Nancy and her husband spent five years circumnavigating the world and experiencing life onboard with all its challenges and life-changing benefits.

In keeping with the theme of 'Working in a Man’s World', Nancy will be sharing her experiences and advice about hard work, the female perspective and unique strengths in competitive and sometimes male-oriented arenas.
Jayne Piercy, media/marketing officer at BIA VIC says the event is a great way to meet other women working in the marine industry.

'There are a lot of women working at all levels of the industry – as well as a lot of wives and daughters involved in businesses – so it’s a forum for us all to get together and network, discuss industry issues and to recognise there is change in the industry. Women are a major market with significant buying power and boating needs to tap in to this.'

The beneficiary of the event isThe Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre, which Jayne says does remarkable work.

'Many people may not be aware, but there are facilities in place for manual wheelchairs to access boats. However, this is not the case for electric chairs. The issues for this are, the door of the transom is commonly not wide enough for electric chairs to enter. The other problems faced are the weight of the chairs, and the ability for them to be locked onto the deck of the boat for stability.

'BIA Victoria is passionate about this cause. We want to help these people enjoy their pastime again, get out and just mingle with others, safely on the water. BIA has offered their support by pledging the first $100 to get them started. Proceeds from the Women In Marine Business luncheon will go towards this initiative.'

Tickets are $80 and can be purchased by contacting Jayne Piercy at BIA VIC on (03) 8696 5606 or email: Jayne@biavic.com.au. Reserve your seat now, as numbers are limited.

Date: Thurs 18 November 2010, midday to 3pm
