Support Save Our Seas for a chance to win a holiday valued at $4,180

by Save Our Seas on 16 Oct 2010
Save Our Seas and no plastic bags logos on Ian's sails. Ian Thomson
Save Our Seas are on a membership drive. By simply visiting their website and joining you could win yourself a holiday for two valued at $4,180 at Paradise Bay Eco Lodge in the tropical Whitsundays.

Individual membership is just $60 and family membership is just $150 with individuals getting a campaign T-shirt and a copy of Ian Thomson's book Dare to Dream and families getting up to four shirts and a copy of the book.
Considering the value of the shirts is $30 and the book is $29.95, this is amazing value and you still get a chance to win a fantastic holiday at a truly great resort.

Paradise Bay is run entirely off solar panels and is a great getaway from the real world. The prize includes helicopter transfers to and from the resort from either Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island, three meals a day and they even have their own boat that goes on daily expeditions all free of charge to guests. Visit www.paradisebay.com.au for more details on the resort. The prize goes to one lucky member that joins before December 24th. The winner will be announced at the CYCA on Christmas Eve at 12 noon.

Save Our Seas are out to raise awareness of the damage plastics and plastic bags are doing to the environment. Your membership helps them achieve this goal. Founder of the campaign, Ian Thomson, earlier in the year broke the world record for sailing solo Around Australia and is now dedicated to the cause. On return he set up the campaign to further his awareness campaign and he is now also promoting alternatives and taking action.

Recent events that SOS have run include building a raft out of plastic milk bottles to teach youth about recycling, diving under public moorings to clean up rubbish that has fallen off boats and next week he is in Melbourne speaking with the younger generation at schools to make them aware of the damage being done and how to prevent it.

As an avid sailor Ian is out to make sure all water users are aware of this damage and will use this years festive season to campaign on two boats in major offshore yacht races. This includes joining Brindabella for the Rolex Sydney to Hobart before returning to Sydney to race his Welbourn 12m in the inaugural Pittwater to Coffs short handed race. After this event he will be joined by other passionate sailors to sail in the Coffs to Paradise and Sail Paradise events capping the season off with the Surf to City in late January. Ian plans to use these races to continue his campaign and his boat will be logoed heavily with anti-plastic bag slogans. Ian said 'It will be great to be in so many great sailing locations over the festive season and have the opportunity to promote the campaign. Sydney, Hobart, Pittwater, Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast and Brisbane will all see our campaign and we will be pushing the campaign of Ban the Bag - Save our Seas.'

To find out more on the Save Our Seas campaign visit www.saveourseasaustralia.com and sign up as a member to get in the draw for this magnificent holiday. However it is your membership that the campaign needs to ensure that Ian and his team can continue the work they do in looking after our playground and protecting it's occupants. If you are keen to join Ian's crew in one of the events mentioned, please contact him to discuss as he is keen to hear from people interested in promoting the campaign and sailing for a cause.
