Subang (Sept 14, 2010): Firefly, Your Community Airline, is once again the official airline and sponsor for the World Match Racing Tour’s (WMRT) prestigious season ending finale, the Monsoon Cup, which takes place at Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa, Kuala Terengganu, from 30th November to 5th December 2010.

Angelina Fernandez, Firefly’s Head of Marketing & Communications said: “It is a privilege for Firefly to be associated with an international event as prestigious as The World Match Racing Tour (WMRT). I am sure that the race will thrill all sailing fans in the region and they can expect the five-days race to be a nail-biting finish. The objective of our partnership is to bring in more visitors from around the region to come and enjoy the sailing race. Our flights from Singapore via Subang to Terengganu will certainly boost the number of visitors.”

In this strategic partnership, Firefly’s sponsor value is RM250,000.00 for the flight tickets to bring the participants and organisers from all over the world to Kuala Terengganu.
“We are delighted that Firefly is back again as an official sponsor of the Monsoon Cup. This goes to show that the Monsoon Cup is a great avenue for sports sponsorship” said Datuk Peter Gilmour, Race Advisor of the Monsoon Cup.

“Our participation in this Monsoon Cup is a symbol of our excellent strategic collaboration and partnership with the State Government of Terengganu and T-Best Events, organisers of the Monsoon Cup. Together, we will work to attract more arrivals of tourists into the state,” Angelina added.

“Firefly is poised to be a driver to unearth young budding sailing talents in the country and from around the world through this kind of community engagement. Firefly’s current route from Singapore to Kuala Terengganu strengthens its network focusing on commuters for business and leisure travelers. It also completes Firefly’s promotion of ONE destination FOUR countries, pairing countries together to co-support tourism.”

Additionally, in conjunction with this year’s Monsoon Cup, Firefly Holiday, Malaysia’s 1st travel portal, has designed special holiday packages. Angelina said that this is the best opportunity for Firefly customers to grab and enjoy Firefly’s packages, and at the same time be able to watch ‘live’ an international sailing regatta, which sees the participation of world-renowned sailors.. This will be marketed online internationally.

For the first time this year, a platform has been set to allow young sailors under the age of 25 from outside Asia to compete in the event through the Asian Match Racing Championship (AMRC), which is a Qualifiers for the Monsoon Cup. The other qualifying event, which will select the sole Malaysian representative at the Monsoon Cup is the Malaysian Match Racing Championship (MMRC). These events take place on 20–28 October at Ri-Yaz Heritage Marina Resort & Spa.
