On Saturday, September 18, the Southport Yacht Club will celebrate the opening of its 64th Boating and Sailing Season with the Club's annual Sail Past and Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony.

Club and visiting vessels will assemble in the vicinity of the Deep Hole and will arrive at Southport Yacht Club for the official Blessing of the Fleet from 2.45pm.

Approximately 50 vessels are expected to take part in the spectacular and colourful parade of sailing and powerboats.
The best vantage point for spectators to view the parade of vessels as they make their way to the Clubhouse is Harley Park, Southport, alternatively, visitors are welcome to view the vessels from the Southport Yacht Club's Clubhouse at Macarthur Parade, Main Beach.


Father Harry Reuss will Bless the Waters with Southport Yacht Club Commodore Rob Mundle and Commander Geoffrey Fiedler ADC RAN taking the salute from the Club's pontoon.

On completion of the Sail Past, the Hinterland Community Band, together with The Southport School Cadets will perform the traditional Sunset Ceremony.

Commodore of the Southport Yacht Club, Rob Mundle said 'the Blessing of the Fleet and traditional Sail Past is a time honoured event in sailing club's to welcome in the new season of boating and sailing'. Commodore Rob also said 'the Club's 64th Sailing Season was planned to be one of the most exciting seasons yet with the Sail Paradise - Gold Coast Regatta to be held along the Gold Coast shoreline in January 2011, highlighting the years sailing calendar.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day with the Hinterland Community Band and vocalist Jocelyn Armstrong. Entertainment will continue in the Clubhouse after the Sunset Ceremony has concluded.

Southport Yacht Club's Main Beach Clubhouse restaurant and facilities are open to Members and bona fide visitors throughout the day.
