Women's Trentino Match Race- day 3

by Fraglia Vela Riva-Ufficio Stampa on 4 Sep 2010
Women’s Trentino Match Race day 3 Piero Spagnolli http://www.teamlab.ch/sail/AVLL/News.aspx
The weather forecast for the day promised showers since the late morning, but the sun and the wind resisted until the early afternoon.

As per schedule the very first part of the day has been reserved to the quater finals with the following pairings:

Bossard (FRA)-Marino (ITA)
Goncalves (POR)-Paoli (SLO)
Pedersen (DEN)-Mariani (ITA)
Zuiderbaan (NED)-Monina (ITA)

Bossard, Paoli, Pedersen and Monina were the winners: all with a 3 to 0 points except for Paoli-Goncalves (3-1).
All the matches were fiercely fought, and for sure everybody did its best to win that stage.

During the drawing for the semi finals the race committee managed to scratch a match for the ninth-10th place between Sato and Aimone, won by Aimone.

The semifinals were paired with Monina-Bossard and Paoli-Pedersen fighting for the first four places, and Zuiderbaan-Marino / Mariani-Goncalves matching for the fourth to eighth rank.

Unfortunately, that is when the wind became jumpy and gusty, forcing the race committee to abandon several starts due to wind shifts of more than 90°...

As expected the rain came right after, shifting the wind 180°.

Thanks to the great guys (and ladys!) of the AVLL the new marks and anchoring were ready in less than 10 minutes (and if you ever sailed on a lake like Ledro or Garda, you can imagine the hard work involved) and the race committee tried to start another series of matches.

At the end of the day only three semi finals were sailed with Bossard leading the fight with Monina 2-0 and Paoli leading on Pedersen 1-0 (please remember that the first to score three points will proceed to the next stage).
