Beijing Sailing Center's Mayor's Cup team returned to Beijing following a week of racing at the Mayor's Cup, part of the Qingdao International Sailing Week.
Finishing in sixth place overall, the team accrued a consistent score line after some very close racing across both coastal and inshore disciplines. It was the first time the crew of 8 had sailed together as a team, representing a range of nationalities and sailing abilities, united on a Chinese flagged boat. For some of the sailors, it was their first taste of coastal offshore racing, so the result is a great credit to the team work and spirit of all those onboard.
The BSC team was proud to be the only boat representing China in the Beneteau First 40 fleet. Their opponents represented nations as diverse as France and Australia, with an extremely experienced professional race team from Japan seizing the overall victory.
All of the sailors representing the BSC team are regular sailors at Beijing Sailing Center's sail base near Beidaihe, Hebei Province, where the center has a fleet of dinghies and catamarans.
Teams from Beijing Sailing Center are set to travel to yachting regattas around Asia in the coming months – they will be a name to watch out for!
