RS500 Worlds - The shootout...

RS500 Worlds up from Golly Tucker: Quick post before leaving these gorgeous shores. Beautiful day, sun, 9-12kts and conditions worthy of crowning champions.

Start was bang on time again and the fleet was all 1/4 of a boat length behind. Perfect. Alex and Bryan headed left - no surprise then that Tim and Heather were there as well. For the first two laps of four they were rarely more than two boat lengths apart with Tim and Heather working their socks off to keep ahead. In lap three Alex and Bryan managed to get some separation going downwind but the pressure was elsewhere - with Tim and Heather.

Whilst the Swedes Johan and Malin had managed to get to the first leeward in the lead it was the Dutch Barend and Max that managed to split the gunslingers at the third leeward rounding. A close cover but not exceedingly tight was established by Tim and Heather whilst Alex amd Bryan had to work past Barend and Max first to get a shot at the leaders.

The kitchen sink was thrown at the problem but Tim and Heather had all-right dishwashing stuff to hand. At 11.43 it was all over at the front.

World Champions - Tim and Heather. What a fight though. The win must be all the sweeter for the amount of effort that had to be thrown at it. Almost as much effort as went into the party last night! But that is a series of stories that should never leave the marina!

Ladies World Champions are Annika Ellerbrock and Anne Werner from Germany who had their own pitched battle with Dutch girls Stephanie and Chantalle Grootscholten. That was a mere three-point margin too.

Youth World Champions were Dutch pairing Hansebas Meijer and Fedor Couvert. Not sure it's an official title but I reckon Hugo and Tim must then be world mini youth world champions with a top effort at ages 13 and 14 respectively.
