Laser 4000 European Championship - All British podium

by Fraglia Vela Riva on 18 Jul 2010
Martin Boyde and Toby Linnell winners of the Laser 4000 European Championship 2010 Elena Giolai
Laser 4000 European Championship at Fraglia Vela Riva concluded today with eleven good, fast and clean races.

Once again Riva del Garda was the venue of an event with exceptional organization on water and on land, from the race committee and the buoy staff to the expert technicians and a venue like Garda Trentino which, with southerly winds of at least fifteen knots, provided the best conclusion for this event organised by Fraglia Vela Riva.

The podium was all British, as predicted from the start of the competition, with Boyde-Linnell leaders from the second day. There wasn’t much change in second and third places. Silver went to the mixed crew of Gould-Hooper (first in the tenth and penultimate race) and bronze for the other mixed crew of Hodgson-Ogg (today fourth and first). Unfortunately Richards-Williamson, who yesterday were only one point behind third position, today had to withdraw from the first race due to a breakdown. They finished, however in fourth place even though the bronze medal had been within their grasp.

'We’re very happy to have been able to put on such an event- said Mauro Stanga, President of Fraglia Vera Riva, at the end of the competition- This time the British were the biggest participants and it is, for us, a great honour to host such technical experts in sailing as the British. July is, for sure ,a very busy month. There are very few days off: after the European Byte, the Intervela and European Laser 4000 Championship, the racing calendar is not yet finished… we have to take advantage of the great weather conditions.

Tomorrow we have the last round of the Fraglia Cup- the Alto Garda Cruise Championships and at the end of the month one of the highlights of the season, the 'RS Cup', 250 boats divided into all the RS classes and speed dinghies which are very popular in Great Britain. It is, for us, a pleasure to once again host such an event which highlights, not only the organisation, but above all the hospitality given to guests and tourists who very often become friends of Fraglia Vela Riva'- said Stanga.
