Platu 25 Spanish Championship, Barcelona 24th to 27th June 2010.

'Bribón-Movistar' of Josep Cusí with Marc de Antonio at the helm, last Sunday became the new Platu 25 Spanish Champion. After three very intensive days in the waters in front of Barcelona (24-27 June) and after nine very competitive races, the boat sailing for the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona conquered the prestigious title. The Marc’s boys secured very good results: three first places, a second, two third place, more than enough to conquer the highest step of the podium.

The rest of the podium was for two boats from Galicia, both of them of the Liceo Casino de Vilagarcía. 'Xacobeo 2010 Galicia' of Ero Pons achieved the second place and 'Movistar-Mexillón Galicia' of the brothers Carlos and Antòn Paz reached the third step. 'La Revoltosa' of Jaime Pont, sailing for the RCN de Valencia, was fourth while 'Renault' of Iñaki Castañer, from Andalucia, conquered the fifth position.

Twenty four crews came from all over Spain – but also from Finland (Kuperkeikka), Italy (Koopa Tropa) and Germany (Flexi) - in order to take part in the regatta organised by the Real Club of Barcelona. Some foreign boats started arriving in Spain, almost ready for the appointment with the Platu 25 World Championship in Alicante (18-24 July).

At the beginning and for the whole regatta there has been a very strong competition between Mar de Antonio ('Bribón-Movistar') and Carlos and Antòn Paz ('Movistar-Mexillón de Galicia'). In the last day – Sunday 27 June – the points of difference between them were very few and the head to head raised other hopes. Thanks to the challenge between Catalans and Galicians there were some adversaries who could make advantage of this situation. Among them, there was 'La Revoltosa' that seemed to have good possibility to gain the podium.

The second race of Sunday – the very last of the Regatta – was really exciting: 'Bribón-Movistar' and 'Movistar-Mexillón de Galicia' knew very well what they were playing and they didn’t want to risk anything on the start line. They marked out each other but, after the first few metres, 'Movistar-Mexillón de Galicia' had to turn and reach the off shore edge, while 'Bribón-Movistar' carried on going along the land edge. After a while the 'Marc de Antonio’s boys on 'Bribón-Movistar' chose also the land edge and they sailed very fast toward the finish line.

They arrived first, conquering the Platu 25 Spanish Championship in Barcelona. After that, the party could start, allowing the crew of 'Bribón-Movistar' to get rid of the tension. 'Xacobeo 2010 Galicia' was very satisfied to conquer the second place – it was a goal that the Pons’s boys had never planned –and 'Movistar-Mexillón de Galicia' couldn’t help congratulating with the team of Marc de Antonio, renouncing the National Champion title.

As Carlos Paz said at the end of the regatta: 'I want to congratulate Bribón-Movistar, Marc and all his crew because they spent two years to conquer the title and at the end they got it. We give the title away until the next year in Marbella'.
