Melges 32 2010 Audi Invitational - The Challenge Day Show

by Joy Dunigan on 27 Jun 2010
SW
Melges 32 2010 Audi Invitational.

The second day of racing at the 2010 Audi Invitational brought performance like it’s never seen before, especially in the Melges 32 fleet. Among them, many familiar faces and guests of Audi and Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

Light winds and plentiful sunshine greeted the fleet and the one race that commenced on time featured and number of sailor athletes paired with television personalities and celebrities within the Melges 32 fleet, as if there wasn’t already enough power to ignite the fleet between the bouys.

Amongst the most ‘loaded’, ski champion Manuela Moellg sailed with Filippo Pacinotti’s Brontolo, one of the fastest teams on the line. Unfortunately, they were forced to chase the likes of Luca Lalli on B.LinSailing.com (carrying the entrepreneur Luke Baronchelli), while dutch owner Kees Kaan played host to Ellen Hidding, followed by Edoardo Pavesio on Fra Martina (with super G World Champion Patrick Staudacher) and Ferdinando Battistella on Cuervo Y Sobrinos (with actor Massimo Ciavarro) and Edoardo Lupi on Torpyone carried David Simoncelli.

The racing was very tight. Elenoire Casalegno sailed with Carlo Alberini on Calvi Network, Werner Heel sailed with Rush Diletta as did Manfred Moellg (slalom winner of World Cup fame) with the total commitment to try and push their boats to the max.
With only one race on the score board, B-LinSailing.com was first, then ROARK followed by Fra Martina, Torpyone just ahead of Cuervo Y Sobrinos.

Lanfranco Cirillo on Fantastica is the current series leader with Michele Paoletti on tactics. Filippo Pacinotti placed second with the excellent Cassinari brothers. Pacinotti is dead even in the points with Lalli (Lorenzo Bressani, tactician) while Torpyone dropped to third with Branko Brcin on board.
