World Sailing is pleased to announce the selection of Techno293 as the equipment used in competition at the upcoming Summer Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, being held from 31 October to 13 November 2026.

The Techno293 was used at Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games for the windsurfing events. Buenos Aires 2018 used the Techno 293+ for the windsurfing events.

The Techno293 is a globally available board which is easy to control. A daggerboard provides directional stability and makes sailing upwind a breeze. In light winds, the near 3m length helps the Techno 293 OD Windsurfer Board really glide through the water, making windsurfing an exciting option for youth athletes.

Dakar 2026, the first Olympic sporting event to be held in Africa, will feature two sailing events as part of a sport program featuring 247 events in 36 sports. The Sailing Competition will be represented by Men's and Women's Windsurfing each with a confirmed quota of 24 athletes, who must be aged between 14 and 16 years old at the time of the competition.

Jim Morris, World Sailing's Director of Events, said, "The Youth Olympic Games is an exciting sporting event for young people from all over the world. Sailing has been a core sport in all three of the previous editions, and we are very excited to build on this legacy during the first Olympic sporting event to be held in Africa. The Techno293 is part of sailing heritage at the Youth Olympic Games, and this generation of young sailors have the opportunity to make history in Senegal."

Athlete participation will be determined by a nomination process for National Olympic Committees (NOCs). Member National Authorities (MNAs) must submit nominations to the relevant NOC before the deadline of 31 July 2025 in order to propose athletes for participation.

The International Olympic Committee has published the Participation Principles for Dakar 2026 [PDF].

In addition, World Sailing has launched its new Dakar 2026 Information Hub which will develop into a go-to destination for the Sailing Competition at the Youth Olympic Games: www.sailing.org/dakar2026
