South Cerney Open Meeting SW
South Cerney Open Meeting 12th/13th June 2010.

Twenty Cadets entered South Cerney’s Open Meeting. Five races were scheduled over two days with a discard kicking in with the fifth race. Eleven visitors from Exe, Frensham Pond, Royal Lymington and Royal Torbay joined nine local crews with final placings counting towards both the Southern Traveller Series and the Ian Craig Trophy.

Three races were completed on Saturday in a shifty breeze which weakened into the afternoon. Race 1 saw Frensham Pond boats finish first and third, split by sailors from Exe. Caroline Croft and Jacob Payne sailing 7274 Wave Rider took the honours from James and Chris Turl in 7627 Vanguard with Matthew and Ben Shorrock third in 8252 Master Mariner.

Two further races followed lunch with victory going to South Cerney boats. Martha Haslam and Katie Ainsworth sailing 8291 Aslan led the fleet home in Race 2 from Frensham Pond sailors Michael Horne and Ben Crane in 9013 Purple Ronnie with Matthew and Ben notching up another third place. Race 3 was won by Rhos Hawes & Lewis Lane in 6977 Izzy Fast. Second place went to James and Henry Marsh from Royal Lymington in 9240 Nitro with Caroline & Jacob third.

Crews awoke on Sunday morning to still airs. Fortunately a breeze filled in by the scheduled start at 10am and steadily strengthened throughout the morning. Overnight leaders Caroline Croft and Jacob Payne consolidated their lead winning Race 4 by a good margin from James and Chris Turl with James and Henry Marsh third. With the trophy secure, Caroline and Jacob went on to take Race 5 from James and Henry with local team Amir Jannaty and Will McMahon third in 9319.

Counting three firsts and a third, Caroline and Jacob were worthy winners by six points from James and Henry, with Rhos and Lewis a further six points behind on 18.

1st - Caroline Croft and Jacob Payne
2nd - James Marsh and Henry Marsh
3rd - Rhos Hawes and Lewis Lane
