Race report filed by Royal Akarana Yacht Club:
Saturday 22nd - 4.00pm A leisurely and stress free start for the competitors, in a southerly breeze of 10 -12 knots. Most boats chose to start with a genneker, and a few others carried a spinnaker.
O'Sinnerman had a very casual start away from the rest of the fleet, but managed to be first over the line, as she had no other boats to contend with on the line. Skiddy Too (Bretton Holland, single handed sailor) was slightly late for the start but was soon heading down the channel in 'catch em up' mode. Revs as expected was leading the 40 footers, with Pretty Boy Floyd just behind, and Bullrush lurking somewhere in the background.
The newly launched Bakewell-White 36, General Lee ran some angles with their genneker, crossing between the Rangitoto shore and the north shore on a number of occasions before settling in to run down the 40 footers. Pleasant sailing conditions for tonight - there are reports that Pretty Boy Floyd has asked Bullrush to hand over some cola for their evening drinks!!
At 2300hrs, O Canada was heading up the NZ coast and might have made a small gain on the rest of the fleet who seemed to be sticking more to the rhumbline course.
