Singapore Sailing president Low Teo Ping to step down

After 12 years at the helm, Singapore Sailing president Low Teo Ping is calling it a day. The 65-year-old is the longest serving president that the Sailing Federation has seen.
Under Mr Low's stewardship, the sport was a role model both on the competitive front and as an organisation. Since 2004, Singapore's young sailors have achieved 14 world-class titles, including five gold medals at the 2006 Asian Games and 11 gold medals at the 2005 and 2007 SEA Games. The sport has also made inroads into schools with the 'Sail Smart' programme, involving some 500 students.
Mr Low's successor will be elected in June and it is understood that one possible candidate is former sailor Dr Benedict Tan.
Mr Low, who will continue to be the president of the Singapore Rugby Union, says that he hopes that he has put in place a system that will keep things smooth sailing for the Federation.
