Regata al Sol - Slick or no slick, we're Mexico bound across the Gulf

Eighteen boats will set sail on Wednesday and Thursday May 12-13 in the 26th biennial Regata al Sol from Pensacola Florida to Isla Mujeres MX, but this year with a twist.
Having tracked the Gulf of Mexico oil spill daily for the last couple of weeks, race officials will institute an offset east of the rhumb-line course that will provide a safety buffer away from the spill while only extending the course length by a dozen or so miles.
Scratch boat in the fleet will be Stephen Murray Jr.'s TP52 Decision. They will be chasing their own record, set in 2002 aboard the Andrews 70 Decision in a time of 59 hours 4 minutes for the 555 nautical mile course. Looking to defend her 2008 title in the Cruising Division will be Tim Burr's Catalina 470 Alegria.
Once in Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancun, racers will unwind in a tropical paradise with unmatched hospitality. The race is co-sponsored by Southern Yacht Club, Pensacola Yacht Club and Club de Yates de Isla Mujeres.
