The Gold Coast's marine precinct is about to enjoy a massive injection of funds for development, following the announcement by Maritimo's Bill Barry-Cotter who is planning a $530m plan to double the size of the existing Coomera marine precinct.
BBC has revealed his plan for a 63.5ha Coomera site north of the Gold Coast City Marina which will be a mixed-use development with have 390 marina berths along the Coomera River. It is expected to be one of Queensland's largest integrated marine industry projects creating about 5000 new jobs when completed.
The proposed Gold Coast International Marine Precinct could take 18 months to get approval from Council and state Government.
One of the first tenants will be Maritimo, which plans to relocate its boatbuilding facilities to the site, giving its direct waterfront access for its production line. It's anticipated there will also be a village-style project with a mix of residential, retail and office space to supplement marine industry tenants.
The plans will deliver another much needed marina in Coomera and also include facilities for the marine industry a TAFE, a yacht club, and commercial outlets.
There are plans for a 390-berth marina and a 290-berth dry stack storage complex.
