For Sydney-siders and those who can reach Sydney, Marine Electrics, one of the most vital technical aspects of operating a sailing boat, will the subject of a free seminar by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia(CYCA) on Tuesday next.
Speaker Rob Starkey is the perfect combination of a high-grade electronics engineer and a passionate sailor, and the
seminar will cover system components, battery fundamentals, charging of batteries, marine 12 volt circuits and troubleshooting.
You'll come away with many secrets of how to keep your power systems in good shape - knowing every aspect of how much power you need, how to store it and how to use it.
About Rob Starkey:
Rob commenced his career as an electronics engineer designing computer integration solutions, and spent 35 years working with three companies, Digital Equipment Corporation, Compaq and Hewlett Packard (HP). Before he recently retired he was World Wide director and Managing principal of the Applications services practice at Compaq and Hewlett Packard based in Boston Massachusetts.
Rob Starkey sails his Holland 46 yacht Windsong from out of Pittwater, and is a member of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club there. He cruises with his partner Donna Rohrs on the New South Wales and Queensland coasts, and is the author of http://skipr.net/notebook/east-coast/robs-passage-planner.html!'Rob's_Passage_Planner', free to cruising yachts.
The seminar will be held on 4th May at the CYCA in New Beach Road on Rushcutters Bay in Darling Point at 6.30pm, and all are welcome. The CYCA's bar and bistro will be open on the night.
