Did you have a great time at the San Diego NOOD Regatta; are you sailing in the Newport to Ensenada Race, The Border Run or The Melges California Cup? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, click on Yachting Cup and register for San Diego Yacht Club’s Yachting Cup. Racing starts April 30th and the fun continues through Sunday, May 2nd.
San Diego Yacht Club’s Commodore Bill Campbell invites you to come for the competition and stay for the party during the 33rd Annual Yachting Cup. The three-day event features an interclub match race in J/22’s on Friday and fleet racing for everybody over the weekend. Whether you are rated under IRC, ORR or PHRF there’s plenty of competition in store for you. There will be starts for Grand Prix IRC boats, including the TP52’s; Sleds and others racing under ORR; up to five PHRF divisions and one-design racing for J/105’s, Flying Tiger’s, J/120’s, Farr 40’s, Schock 35’s, Beneteau 40.7’s, Beneteau 36.7’s, Melges 24’s, and J/80’s.
Yachting Cup takes place the weekend following the Newport to Ensenada and Border Run distance races. Follow your rest and recovery in San Diego with buoy racing during Yachting Cup.
Regatta Chairman, Jon Gardner of North Sails, says, 'I encourage everyone to register early, so that we can make the handicapped divisions exciting create and as many one design classes as possible. We’re looking forward to seeing the TP52’s and IRC boats battle it out in the conditions that they were built for and we are anticipating another Sled reunion. The event is also the first series in the inaugural Melges California Cup, so we expect a large turnout from the Melges 24’s.'
Andy Rasdal, whose TP52, Valkyrie, was delivered in time for the Newport to Cabo Race last year says, 'The TP52’s are fast and fun and all of the Southern California teams are having a great time. I couldn’t believe how close we finished in the Islands Race. After 130 miles, Stark Raving Mad was out in front by a little and the rest of us were so close that we could hear each other thinking. We’re looking forward to having all of California’s TP52 teams mixing it up around the buoys. This year’s Yachting Cup will definitely be hotly contested.'
Doug and Pam Werner, whose J/105 team was the big winner at the San Diego NOOD regatta last weekend, are also looking forward to another big turnout from the J/105’s. 'If we could duplicate everything about last weekend, we would. We’re still smiling. We have a very strong fleet, and you never know who is going to win. I hope that we will have another 18-boat turnout and another great weekend of racing in San Diego.'
Multiple classes, multiple racing circles and multiple parties and the Lomatones on Saturday night. Sound fun? Sign up for Yachting Cup 2010 before April 26th.
