US Olympic Paralympic Sailing Program's Golden Spinnaker Regatta Gala
by Marni Lane on 12 Mar 2010
To benefit and support the US Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Program and the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics, the Sailing Foundation of New York will sponsor the Golden Spinnaker Regatta and Gala at New York Yacht Club’s Harbour Court on Saturday, July 31, 2010. To date, the Sailing Foundation of New York has raised, through events and donations, over $4,000,000 in support of the US Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Program.
The Regatta will feature donors racing with and against the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics athletes in the New York Yacht Club’s Sonars. After sailing, the evening Gala will include cocktails and dinner, silent and live auction items and interviews with the athletes, emceed by US SAILING President Gary Jobson.
Event Chairman Phil Lotz of New York Yacht Club commented, “Our commitment to the athletes on our national team continues to develop. In the past, we have been fortunate in our success at raising financial support for the team with our gala dinners. This year we are adding a new element - a regatta. Now, our donors and guests can do more than sustain the athletes; they can compete with and against them as well.”
Dean Brenner, Chairman of the US Olympic Sailing Program, said, “Our partnership with the Sailing Foundation of New York and the New York Yacht Club is critical to our success. We currently have great momentum within our program, but we rely on the support of the great clubs and organizations in the American sailing community, and we have no better partners than these.”
