Final Preparations for Record Swan Cup 2000
by Jour J on 3 Aug 2000
Swan owners all over the World are currently using their boats in the role of holiday
home for family and friends for their summer vacations, but for 102 Swan owners this
summer brings another role for their boats - racing in the Swan Cup 2000 in Porto Cervo,
hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.
The record fleet of 102 Swans with an average size of 58ft will gather in the glittering
azure waters of Costa Smeralda for the regatta which will span seven days from August
27th to September 2nd and will include five days of racing with one lay day.
As part of the build up to the regatta a new internet site (www.swancup.com) is being
launched on 5 August 2000 for use by both the owners, crews and the media to find
valuable information about the regatta including a list of entries, the race and social
programme, list of trophies and awards and valuable shoreside information for people
travelling to Porto Cervo. During the event the website will carry all the daily results, the
daily press releases including quotes from skippers and owners and also a gallery of
copyright free photographs from each day¹s racing.
Other media opportunities have been prepared during the race week with several owners
inviting journalists to race aboard their boats. Nautor will also be presenting their new
generation model range, the Swan 44, Swan 62RS, Swan 70 and Swan 100; these boats
will be joining the already launched Swan 112, Swan 82Rs and Swan 80 models in the
Swanline all of which will be attending the Swan Cup in Porto Cervo.
Nautor¹s Swan partners Deutsche Bank Private Banking, Telecom Italia and Bulgari will
not only support the race programme with the supply of prizes for each day¹s racing but,
along with Champagne Pommery, Frescobaldi, San Pellegrino and Peroni, will also
support the varied and exciting social events that will cater for both owners and crews.
All of this along with the legendary challenging waters of Porto Cervo will once again
satisfy the mixed crowd of Swan owners, from the hard core yachtsmen there to win the
much coveted prizes, to the purely Corinthian sailor, experiencing the sheer pleasure
that the beautiful venues, the enjoyable racing and the prestigious parties provide.
