This Week's Product-Folding Cleats - for clumsy footed foredeck hands

by Des Ryan on 10 Feb 2010
We gotta get folding cleats on this boat! SW
Clumsy footed foredeck hand. Okay that's me. And it's the tropics. It's hot and humid. Running around the foredeck I want to be running barefoot. But when I do, all the sharp edges seem to aim directly for my feet.

So I end up sailing with my mouth constantly 'O' shaped, and emitting a series of silent screams. That's when folding cleats seem the best idea in the world, so this week's 'Product of the Week' is Accon Marine's Folding Cleats.

When you put folding cleats on your boat, you are also adding, as well as comfort for your poor foredeck hand, sleek stylish lines to the boat. When not in use, the cleats lock down and out of the way. With the push of their release button, the cleats spring back up.

The folding cleats from Accon Marine are good because the installation process is extremely simple. They mount on the surface of a boat, and no cut-outs or hole saws are required. These folding cleats won't leak into the boat either, making drain tubes and receptacles unnecessary.

Constructed of brightly polished 316 stainless steel, the Folding Cleats are available in two versions: stud mount with hidden fasteners or through-bolted with visible screw holes. Stud length is 3.8 cm. They range in size from 8.9 cm to 20 cm.

Accon Marine prides itself on the fact that innovation is its industry trademark, so you are always encouraged to share your product/boat problems with them - you never know, they just might be able to develop a solution.

For more information about the folding cleats, go to their www.acconmarine.com!website, and to purchase, here is a list of Canadian distributors:
