She has sunk! Three videos from Ady Gil - Earthrace collision with Wha
by Powerboat-World.com on 8 Jan 2010
Ady Gil SW
The Carbon fibre 24 metre (78 foot) bio-diesel powered Ady Gil, formerly Earthrace, the round the world powerboat record holder tangled with the Shonan Mauru 2.
You make up your own mind.
Did Pete Bethune deliberate ram his carbon fibre powerboat into the Shonan Maru 2 or did the Japanese security vessel try to run over the anti-whalers.
Either way, we are amazed that the water cannon on the Sonan Maru 2 continued after the collision.
Breaking News - sorry about the pun
The Sea Shepherd trimaran has now sunk. Sea Shepherd founder Paul Watson said the Ady Gil went down shortly before 8:30am AEDT today while it was being towed to an island.
'I think they were towing for about six or seven hours,' he said.
'Even the act of towing was taking more water on. The damage to the bow of the boat had same the vessel completely in half and made it unseaworthy.'
Six Sea Shepherd crew members were almost thrown overboard and one crew member suffered broken ribs when the Japanese whaling security ship, the Shonan Maru 2, hit the the bow of the Ady Gil on Wednesday.
Both the Japanese whalers and the Sea Shepherd crew blame each other for the incident, which happened in Antarctic waters.
