Three-time Powerboat P1 SuperSport Class World Champion, Angelo Tedeschi, has refused to get too downhearted after last week’s shock announcement that the Italian would not be racing with the Ukrainian Sprit team in 2010.
Despite missing out on the opportunity to race as part of the Ukrainian Spirit’s new Evolution Class crew, Tedeschi has thrown down the gauntlet to his former employers and the rest of his SuperSport peers, that next year will see him complete an imperious fourth consecutive title.
'My dear friends in Supersport must now bear another year and I will give everything to win the fourth title in a row.'
Tedeschi said the decision to sever ties with the Ukrainian Spirit team was unexpected. He said: 'You have to respect the sponsors’ decision, but it will be interesting to see how the new pilot goes, as racing at over 100 mph requires lots of experience and ability.'
His biggest disappointment surrounds his break-up with friend and two-time world champion, Aaron Ciantar. 'I have run with him for so long, so it will be strange not sitting next to him. There was a great feeling between us, especially after winning back-to-back world titles together.
'I will return to run with my boat, number 44, next year and I now have to find a very strong driver to replace Aaron.'
The queue to race with the powerboating legend is likely to be extremely long indeed, but Tedeschi has already identified his ideal co-pilot. 'My dream is to run with Stefano Cola, but it is going to be hard to convince his wife.'
Negotiations with a principal sponsor are almost concluded whilst important agreements with a clothing company and a nautical leasing business are on the horizon.
'We will make numerous improvements to the boat, I’m confident we will still be the team to beat,' concluded Tedeschi.
