Salthouse 65 Hull being relocated to new Factory Salthouse Marine
As the year comes to a close, Salthouse Marine is undertaking the mammoth task of moving factory. Their new facility on the Concourse in Auckland places them at the water’s edge and close to the neighbouring yards of Alloy Yachts and Vaudrey Millar Tenders.
With a stud height of 15 meters the building will facilitate the production of the new Salthouse 82 while bringing the factory close to the water. 'It has become increasingly more difficult to truck existing vessels' says Julie Salthouse. 'And the move to bigger boats along with the need for a purpose built factory has been the key driver behind our move. Owning our own facility allows us to structure the layout of the factory around production. We have a vertically integrated production team of laminators, boatbuilders, engineers, electricians, cabinet makers, varnish, painting and upholstery so to have a facility structured around the way we work is an important aspect of production efficiency' Julie explains.
The company sees this as a short to medium term transition as the shift to bigger boats continues, with the exception of one Salthouse 57 the last six boats has consisted of three Salthouse 65’s and three Salthouse 68’s. With an overall length of 25.5m and a beam of 6.8m having a consecutive number of Salthouse 82’s under build will be an impressive sight and with the reported interest, 2010 is shaping up to be a big year for Salthouse Marine.
