SB3 Worlds confirmed for Australia in 2012

The International SB3 World Championships for 2012 have been confirmed for Australia. In late January 2012, the SB3 Class will take over Corio Bay, Geelong for their world championships. Hosted by Royal Geelong Yacht Club, the event will overlap Audi Victoria Week in 2012.

This will be the fifth worlds for the class but importantly the first for the SB3s outside Europe.

With strong corporate support already in place and shipping subsidies set up to enable a host of overseas teams to compete, it is anticipated an 80 boat SB3 fleet will face the first gun.

The Australian SB3 fleet is already 26 boats strong, and the class has plans to engage with existing and new SB3 sailors to grow this to at least 50 by the time the Worlds comes around.

More details of the ‘Road to Geelong’ program that the class in Australia will run will be forthcoming in the next weeks. The SB3 is now sailed in Australia, NZ, Singapore, China, UAE and the USA and of course has huge fleets in UK, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Holland and other European countries.

For SB3 class details contact the Class president Rod Jones - rodneyjones(at)oceanburo.com.au or visit the oceanburo.com.au website or dartsailboats.com website.

A dedicated Australian SB3 Worlds website will be up and running in then next few weeks.
