Skandia Life Cowes Week
by Sue Warden-Owen on 4 Aug 2000
Peter Ogden retained his New York Challenge Cup title at Skandia Life Cowes Week,
although Ireland's Colm Barrington maintains overall control on the class one fleet.
Sydney-bound Olympians Andy Beadsworth and Ian Walker enjoyed their best day on
the water yet banking a third place.
In wet and gusty weather Barrington struggled to find his early regatta form when light
airs and favourable handicap gained him a run of top placings.
In frantic start-line posturing, the Dublin based 'Gloves Off' traded punches with Cork's
Harold Cudmore, aboard 'Barlo Plastics', finishing just one place ahead of the former
America's Cup stalwart in tenth place.
Cudmore remains in the hunt for overall honours in fifth place overall, whilst Maverick II,
who triumphed in the appalling conditions of 'Windy Wednesday' is just four points
behind Barrington in second place.
