The 2009 Wide Bay Australia Bundy Thunder is ready and raring to go over the weekend of November 6-8 when the top powerboat racers from across Australia set out to do battle.
Organisers say there will be at least 60 races with classes including Blown Alcohol Displacement, 6.0 and 5.0-litre displacement, Formula 1, Classic and new Hydroplanes, Unlimited Outboard, 25hp and Juniors.
The racing will be staged at the Sandy Hook Reserve, on the Burnett River, West Bundaberg.
A gala weekend of entertainment has been planned to add to the excitement of the weekend with extensive on-site catering, an exclusive corporate marquee area, merchandise booths and games for the kids.
Spectators have it made, with elevated banks providing a clear view of the racing action.
As stated, racers come from across Australia and the proof of that can be seen with Western Australia’s Paul Harvey who, with his crew, will tow ‘True Blue’ 4500 kilometres to compete.
A member of the WA Speedboat Club, the ‘True Blue’ team was placed in both the Trojan Cup and the Brad Pratt Memorial last year and Paul is keen to gain the podium again.
As Paul recalled, 2008 was not his year, with a fire on board during the UIM International on the Gold Coast and the need to re-build two engines in time for the ’08 Bundy Thunder a week later.
This year he’s fresh and ready to again ‘rip and tear’ in the 6.0-litre Injected Class.
A display of competing boats and a welcome dinner has been scheduled for the Brothers Sports Club on the Friday evening where race visitors can see the boats first-hand and meet some of the drivers.
A presentation function has also been arranged at the nearby Sugarland Tavern on the Sunday evening.
There’s a wide range of accommodation options in Bundaberg, including resorts, motels, hotels, bed and breakfast and self-contained apartments.
