Banbury SC GP14 Open

by Tim Matthews on 14 Jul 2009
Banbury Sailing Club hosted round 10 of the GP14 Midland Bell Championship on Sunday 12th July. An entry of 16 boats was the highest number for some years. Eight home boats were joined by eight visitors, from Chase, Midland, South Staffs and Nottingham sailing clubs.

The weather was kinder this year with a fairly constant westerly F4 making for short beats and a long tight reach the length of the lake.

An impromptu fly past by a WW2 Lancaster bomber preceded the start!

Two races were sailed back to back in the morning with Dave Young and Elii Davis (South Staffs) claiming two firsts , Paul Leavers and Nigel Spurr, (Midland) two seconds and a third each for Terry Edwards and Darren Heath (South Staffs) and Peter Storey & Kevin Hopkins (Midland).

After a lunch, with the meeting in the bag, Dave and Elii opted to watch the final race from the shore, leaving Paul and Terry to battle it out for second and third places overall.

After a short race Terry and Darren finished first, Michelle Williams and Adam Frogatt second and David Bolton King and Edward Bolton King third.
