Spectra releases the Farallon 1800 with the revolutionary Pearson Pump

by Andrew Wilson on 17 Jun 2009
Spectra Watermakers
The new Spectra Farallon 1800 watermaker will produce 75 gallons (284 liters) of pure, fresh, excellent tasting water per hour on only 1kW AC power. Spectra have again made a major technological breakthrough with the Spectra Pearson Pump™. The 1800 will be the first in the Spectra Farallon series. The follow up to the 1800 will be the larger 2400 (120 GPH / 442 LPH).

In the late 90s Spectra set the bench mark for energy efficiency and reliability for onboard watermaker systems with the introduction of the Spectra Clark Pump™. Since that time many have endeavored to replicate the same technology and efficiency for smaller scale, onboard systems with little or no success. Spectra then introduced the MPC 5000 control leading to a whole new level of automation for the marine watermaker industry.
Spectra has now accomplished the same for the larger onboard systems, providing unparalleled energy efficiency while maintaining a time proven level of automation and overall system reliability in a unit that does not sacrifice valuable installation space.

The Spectra Pearson Pump™ (SPP) is an enhancement of the well known reciprocating piston pump. The top side of the SPP pump acts in the same manner as existing piston pumps. The new feature is that the bottom side of this pump is used as a motor, driven by the high pressure brine flow from the membrane, recovering energy that would otherwise be wasted, achieving energy efficiency levels even higher than the venerable Spectra Clark Pump™.
