Lauryn Eagle heads from Sydney Robert Stirling
Former World champion speed skier and Australian champion Lauryn Eagle set off from Manly Wharf at 12:02 today, in a light southerly breeze.
She rounded the Newcastle mark at 13:44, she has broken the Sydney Newcastle record and is now powering south into a 1-1.5 metre swell on track to break the overall Sydney Newcastle and return water ski record.
The existing Sydney to Newcastle water ski record has stood for 30 years at 1 hour and 55 minutes, but Eagle smashed that down to and 1 hour and 42 minutes today. To complete the round trip Lauryn is aiming for an elapsed time of three and a half hours for the 222 kilometre journey.
As she headed for the Heads, the chase boat fleet could not keep up. The tow boat for the record attempt is a Protector 8.5m centre console powered by a single Yamaha F350 V8 outboard engine. Yamaha is an official sponsor of the Lauryn Eagle record attempt in partnership with Protector Boats. Both are delighted to be supporting Australian talent.
'We agreed to come on board with Lauryn as we very much respect her commitment and her talent,' said Grant Binskin, National Marketing Coordinator for Yamaha.
'And to give her the very best opportunity we have provided our biggest and most powerful outboard, the F350 four stroke model. While Lauryn is racing to beat the clock, she is doing her run record run using a standard, production Yamaha outboard. This is straight out of the box and entirely stock engine.'
