Formula Cruisers adds Prowler 10.4 powercat to its product range

In a market where many companies are falling by the wayside, Formula Cruisers, one of New Zealand’s longest established boat building companies continues to expand. Their latest acquisition is the Prowler 10.4 power catamaran, previously built by Logan Classic Boats Ltd.

Logan’s, Eric Knight, a long time advocate of displacement multi hull designs, is the man behind the Prowler 10.4.

Having purchased the moulds for an existing Schionning design, the Prowler 9000, Knight set about modifying the design to create an efficient, sea worthy powercat that is suited to both family and charter use. The result is a boat with an enormous amount of room when compared to a similar length monohull, powered by twin 60 hp outboards, which provide a cruising speed of 18 kts and fuel burn of just 1 litre / mile at 15 kts.

'I am extremely happy with the design and performance of the Prowler 10.4 and proud of the boats we have built to date' says Knight and partner Lynn Paul, 'but it was evident that we did not have the facilities at Logan to produce these boats effectively or at a production scale to keep up with enquiry levels'. 'Formula Cruisers have the facilities, boat building skills and marketing resources to undertake this project successfully and take it to a new level'.

'It is part of our business plan to continue the growth of Formula Cruisers by adding additional models and products to our range' says Grant Senior, Formula’s General Manager, and we are excited to add the Prowler 10.4 as it provides fantastic boating opportunities to a section of the market where we were not previously catering to.

Previous 10.4’s have been sold into both Australia and New Zealand, and this will continue through Formula Cruisers existing dealer network. Production of the renamed FORMULA PROWLER 10.4 at Formula’s Hobsonville premises will start in July 2009.
