Interview with Sara Wright, Bermuda, Europe class

by News Editor on 25 Sep 2000 Sail-World: Your tell me about your preparation for this regatta and the sailing you've done in the Europe class in the last few years?

Sara Wright: Basically, I started sailing in the Europe class a year ago, so I have been focusing on training 5/6 hours a day, and doing major regattas in Europe starting from Princess Sophia, then Kiel, Spa the Europeans and obviously the Worlds in Brazil, and here now, so its been pretty extensive.

Sail-World: In the week prior to the regatta the breeze was quite strong, how did you find sailing on the harbour?

Sara Wright: I was here for about six week training, and when I first started it was a bit daunting. I got used to it, and it was fun to sail with all the big swells and the chop on course D. So it's a bit of a disappointment that its been quite flat and not much breeze.

Sail-World: Can you tell me about the dingy sailing scene at home in Bermuda.

Sara Wright: Well I own the only Europe dingy, I own three, and I sail all of them, and I get sailors to train with me. The weather is always great at home so it's easy to get people to train with me.

Sail-World: Where did you start sailing, give us some history.

Sara Wright: I only sailed my first international regatta about four years ago, so I'm pretty late. So I am pleased to be here at the Olympics.

Sail-World: Are you now going to focus on the next Olympic in Greece.

Sara Wright: I've turned my whole life upside down, so I am really going to focus on my sailing.

Sail-World: What are your impressions on the organisation of the Olympics.

Sara Wright: It's been really great, the race committee has been fantastic and there hasn't been any major hick-ups.

Sail-World: Have you seen any other events?

Sara Wright: Yes, I've seen some diving, the finish of the Marathon, so it hasn't been too bad. It's been a great experience.
