Fireball South Australia State Championship Final Results

by Robin Inns on 3 Apr 2009
Robin Inns/Joel Coultas Fireball National and State Champions 07/08 & 08/09 - Fireball South Australia State Championship Ben Neaylon
The final two South Australia Fireball state championship races were held in difficult conditions at Adelaide Sailing Club on 15/3/09.

Although the overall winners had already been decided it was still open for the minor places and overall handicap positions.

Two races were held back to back in lumpy seas. The breeze was varying in both strength and direction as rain squalls moved across the course.

Robin Inns/Joel Coultas battled hard to take the win in both races from Nathan Stockley/Sam Muirhead. The remaining places were mixed however Ben Schulz/Ben Neaylon did enough to hold onto second position overall with Greg Allison/Richard Watson finishing one point behind in third.

Final results can be seen at www.regattamanager.com.au/FBALLSA0809/Results/Progress.html

Handicap positions were also tight. These results will not be announced until presentation night so make sure that you come along!

With the serious racing over for another season we look forward to some more relaxed sailing. Crew’s race will be held at Adelaide SC on 18/4/09. The crews finally get the chance to show off their skill(?) on the tiller while nervous skippers try to hang on. Time to check the insurance policies!

Club races have also taken on a more laid back feel. Last week Tim Ninnes and Ralph McDonald managed to find time to set some crab nets up the first beat. They still rounded the top mark in third position! Luckily the best crabbing spot was on the favoured left hand side!

If you would like to experience Fireball sailing please don’t hesitate to contact us.

With the Australian Championship to be held at Port Stephens in NSW, the 2010 Worlds in Barbados and the 2012 Worlds in Mandurah WA there has never been a better time to get into the class.
