Audi Etchells Worlds Race 4 – Bertrand Black flagged

by Rob Kothe on 11 Mar 2009
Audi Etchells Worlds 2009 - TRIAD, skipper John Bertrand Andrea Francolini / Audi http://www.afrancolini.com
The superstar team of John Bertrand, Ben Ainslie and Andrew Palfrey were leading the 2009 Audi Etchells World Championship when they sailed out onto the course for race four of the series.

They will hope they have sailed their drop today, after they were black flagged, over the line early.

First to the top mark were two Cowes fleet boats skippered by Rob Goddard (GBR) and Laurence Mead (GBR). In third place was Graeme Alexander from Mornington, and then came Melbourne fleet sailor Kirwan Robb, Noel 'Nitro' Drennan, who was a well placed fifth in the series going into this race and Chris Busch. (USA)

Dual world champion Stuart Childerly was eighth ahead of North Sails (Sydney) Julian Plante.

Queenslander Jason Muir, who was second overall going into race four, is 11th and he is temporarily now leading the world championship series. Who knows what will happen when the drop comes in after race five.

Third overall before the start of the race, 2006 World Champion Jud Smith (USA) was buried back in 22nd place, but we expect to see him advance over the next hour.

As the leaders dropped their spinnakers at the bottom mark Goddard was still leading from Mead, with Robb and Busch next. Alexander had dropped to fifth place.

At the finish line it was Goddard, Mead and Robb.

Here is the finishing list for race 4
