18 ft Skiff Championship 4th heat

by Peter Danby on 25 Feb 2002
Series Leader Rag & Famish Hotel increased her lead in the Australia 18ft Skiff Championship after
an all the way win in the 4th heat on Sydney Harbour today. Skipper John Harris and his crew of
Craig Ferris and Chris Cleary were superb in the 8-10 kt North-East conditions which prevailed.

Rag & Famish Hotel took the lead from the start and lead throughout to cross the finish line 2
minutes 25 seconds ahead of Sunday Telegraph ( Michael Coxon). d'Albora Marinas (John Winning)
was a further 10 seconds back in 3rd place.

With 2 heats still to be sailed the three placegetters are also the leaders in the overall pointscore.
Rag & Famish Hotel leads on 6 points, followed by Sunday Telegraph on 16 points, d'Albora Marinas
on 30.7points and Express Post (Hugh Stodart) on 44points.

With Rag & Famish Hotel well ahead of the fleet most interest centred on the minor placings.
Sunday Telegraph was always in 2nd place but had to withstand a strong challenge from d'Albora
Marinas over the second half of the course. Both skiffs raced side by side to the finish with Sunday
Telegraph holding on by a mere 10 seconds.
