The boating industry in the United States is reportedly staggering under the weight of the global financial crisis, with the opening stanza of the Miami International Boat Show described as the quietest on record.
Nevertheless, Australian builder of luxury motor yachts, Maritimo, gained a jump on its rivals with a highly successful showing at the Marriott Marina and was able to confirm sales and strong interest in the marque.
Marketing director Luke Durman and warranty manager Ross Willaton attended the show to support Maritimo USA president Dave Northrop and the US dealer network.
Durman always prefers to keep results and numbers ‘on the quiet’, but confirmed the sale of two Maritimo 48 flying bridge cruisers with the comment that 'other sales appear likely.'
He said there was also 'strong interest' in the company’s sensational Cabriolet range.
'We were pleasantly surprised at the level of attendance at our display,' Durman said.
'Quite often, when other exhibitors had closed down and headed for the nearby restaurants and bars we were still showing visitors through the Maritimo range.
'I believe with Maritimo’s renowned performance, engineering and craftsmanship, allied with the Australian dollar being at about 65 cent to the US greenback, our range represents as outstanding value to US buyers,' he added.
The Gold Coast-based company is now at full production as it readies a range of new models for release at the approaching Sanctuary Cove and Sydney International Boat Shows.
