Boat International Media and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) are busy registering entrants for the second Boat International Superyacht Regatta, scheduled for 9-13 June 2009.
The fleet, which in 2008 boasted many of the world’s most impressive racing superyachts (minimum length of 24 metres, i.e. approximately 80’), again is shaping up nicely for four days of competition on the famed emerald waters off Sardinia’s northeastern coast.
Confirmed entries that will compete for the ultimate prize on the superyacht racing circuit – The Boat International Silver Trophy – include: Charles Dunstone’s Philippe Briand designed 36 metre (118') Hamilton II; Claus Peter Offen’s 30.5 metre (100') Y3K and Dr Thomas Bscher’s 28.55 metre (94’) Open Season, both Wally yachts by German Frers; Marco Vogele’s Philippe Briand 31.87 metre (104’) Gliss; Alessandro Rinaldi’s Bruce Farr designed 30 metre (98') Farewell; the German Frers designed 47 metre (154’) Hyperion; the Luca Brenta designed 37 metre (121’) Ghost; and Kim Schindelhauer’s Tony Castro designed 29 metre (95’) Scorpione dei Mari. Other yachts organising their Med summer diaries with a view to participate include the Nathaniel Herreshoff reproduction schooner Eleanora, at 49 metres (161’); the world’s largest gaff-rigged cutter, Lulworth, at 46.3 metres (152’); and Barry Houghton’s Ed Dubois designed 44 metre (145’) Salperton.
Confirmed entries also include Lang Walker’s 51.7 metre (170') Kokomo designed by Ed Dubois and built by Alloy Yachts, which is a Silver sponsor of the regatta. Several Dubois designed yachts intend to compete in the Boat International Superyacht Regatta, as the event directly follows the Dubois Cup, also organized by YCCS and scheduled for June 6-8 in Porto Cervo.
Future Fibres, another Silver sponsor of the event, will be represented by many in the superyacht racing fleet that have Future Fibres rigging.
'Following the success of last year´s inaugural regatta, we had no hesitation in expanding our involvement in this year´s event,' said company founder Tom Hutchinson, who is a familiar face in the superyacht racing world. 'We are looking forward to a competitive regatta and some great parties!'
The social programme includes a Skippers Briefing, a Welcome Cocktail Party and an Owners Gala Dinner hosted at the YCCS, a glamorous beach party for owners and guests at The Hotel Romazzino, and the Prizegiving on the club’s Piazza Azzurra.
Early registration is advised, as a maximum of 30 entries will be accepted. Please visit www.boatinternationalsuperyachtregatta.com for further details.
