Australia’s leading manufacturer of residential and commercial berthing systems, Superior Jetties, has won a major project with their joint venture partners in the UAE Al Masaood, to construct the marina at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) for the 2009 inaugural Abu Dhabi Yacht Show.

The prestigious event is being managed by Informa Yacht Group, the organizers of the Monaco Yacht Show and will open on March 12th, 2009. The $5 Million project allows for both a permanent concrete structure to allow mooring of Megayachts up to 90m as well as the temporary hospitality pontoons used during the show.

The marina is a logistics coup with Superior Jetties on the Gold Coast supplying the expertise for the local construction of the Super Yacht marina while also manufacturing the hospitality pontoons. The concrete main marina will be manufactured in Abu Dhabi with supplementary personnel and materials flying in next week from Australia to support the team at Al Masaood for this major project.

“This is a very short timeframe for the project”, commented John Hogan, Managing Director of Superior Jetties, “however our team has responded to the challenge by increasing output before the Christmas shutdown to meet the schedule”. “There is an extensive network of people in Australia, the UAE office and Europe who have combined to make this a reality. We are very pleased to be the first Gold Coast company to construct a Super Yacht marina, as we expect there will be more projects like this in Queensland in the future.”

The main marina is 350m long and 5 metres wide and features the Superior Elite system which allows the flexibility to alter the configuration easily because of its modular layout. This will be necessary due to the ADNEC facility hosting the IDEX defence show on February 22nd, 2009 where naval vessels will need access to the site. The project team has calculated sections of the marina to be relocated during the show, to easily accommodate these needs.

The show is shaping up to host an impressive array of the finest Super Yachts available today, with the 90m yacht Lauren recently announced as a participant. Superior has also retained Mega Yacht Specialists to consult on the berthing process to ensure a smooth running show. The Al Masaood Superior Jetties joint venture has proved to offer the best products for the job, with special thanks to the extensive local support of our partner Al Masaood, who has been a major player in the local UAE marine market for more than 50 years.
