Saturday 13th December saw a fleet of 39 Lasers, Radials and 4.7s take to the waters of the Upper Harbour in Dunedin for the South Island Laser Champs.
Space was at a premium in the carparks at Vauxhall Yacht Club as the sailors from around the island (young and old, from Nelson, Picton, Christchurch to Queenstown and Bluff) arrived and rigged.
The weather forecast was for light variable North east wind building during the day. Racing commenced in a light 6 ~ 10 knot easterly breeze and overcast sky. By lunch time the breeze had filled in to a very pleasant 10 ~ 15 knots and some sunshine. The afternoon breeze increased to 15 ~ 20 knots and saw some lively sailing.
The day finished off with a BBQ tea for competitors and supporters.
