Teamsail fleet sailing north for Hogs Breath and Hahn Premium Race week

Chartering a yacht on Pittwater has always been very popular. It is far away from the hustle and bustle of the city of Sydney and it's on-water commercial traffic. In Pittwater the sea is calm, clean and uncrowded, providing the perfect location to relax and unwind.

For more than 25 years Pittwater Yacht charter has been operating a conventional bareboat and crewed charter operation with a growing sailing school program.

Two years ago principals Alec Barrass and Chad Shepherd, saw a major business opportunity, which has proven to be a major winner.

Alec Barrass explained 'We recognised the burgeoning interest in corporate sailing programs and were looking for the right sailing vessel to expand into this area. While our Pittwater Yacht charter base is at Bayview Anchorage marina, where we have sixteen luxury yachts, we wanted to locate our corporate racing fleet at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. This is because the club is the focus for Pittwater racing and its facilities are very popular for post race socialising.

The launch of a new Australian designed yacht, the Sydney 38 One Design, a high performance IRC racing yacht, which races in charter configuration, proved to be an ideal platform to expand our sailing school, racing charter and corporate sailing program.

We made the decision to commit to this new design for our own fleet, because it was offering all the things we knew our corporate and sailing school clients would appreciate, a fast easy to sail boat, with big uncluttered deck spaces and a spacious cabin.

We did not dream the '38 would be such a tremendous success for one design racing. The demand for racing charter has increased rapidly and this has allowed us to offer much more offshore sailing training for our sailing school students.

Our entire fleet will be sailing under charter for the Hogs Breath Sydney 38 Nationals at Airlie Beach and for Hahn Premium Race week at Hamilton Island.

With the whole Teamsail Sydney 38 fleet going north, with the migrating whales, there will be many more offshore sailing school places. In fact our offshore training program is now probably amongst the largest in Australia'
