Perth the place to be this Summer for Laser Racing

The WA Laser Association is looking forward to a massive Summer of laser sailing in Perth Western Australia. WA is hosting the WA State Laser Champs, Australian Laser Championships, Australian Youth Championships & the Asia Pacific Laser Championships all within the space of one month at differing venues throughout the Perth metropolitan area.

The first event on the Perth Laser circuit is the WA State Championships to be hosted by South of Perth Yacht Club on the Swan River. This regatta is to be run between 19th-21st December & is set to act as the warm up event for the major regattas following the States.

The Australian Laser Championships is the next event on the calendar, to be held in conjunction with Fremantle Sailing Club on the beautiful Indian Ocean between the 27th December 2008 – 5th January 2009.

Fremantle has a long history of yachting with the 1987 America’s Cup having been sailed on the same stretch of water where 200+ Lasers are expected to be battling it out for supremacy. With the addition of the ISAF Sailing World Championships being held from Fremantle Sailing Club in December 2011 many international sailors with aspirations of sailing in the 2012 Olympics are expected to try and get a feel for what to expect in three years time, and with the renowned ‘Freo Doctor’ prevalent over the Summer months plenty of action is expected!

The Australian Youth Championships are being hosted at a place called Mandurah Offshore Fishing & Sailing Club (just an hour south of Perth’s CBD) between 6th-11th January 2009. This event is set to attract many of Australia’s finest young athletes that are aspiring for selection into the Australian team for the 2009 ISAF Youth World Champs to be held in Brazil later in the year.

Closely following the Youth’s is the Asia Pacific Laser Championships to be hosted by Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club on the Swan River between 12th-16th January 2009. Entries are already flowing in, with entries already been received from as far away as Norway, India and New Caledonia.
