Team Russia continues to finalise its team for the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race today with the announcement that Mark Covell (40) will join them as its media crew member.

British Olympic silver medallist and America’s Cup sailor, Mark has developed his media career in recent years working with APP Sunset and Vine on the MedCup and Extreme 40 Circuit. He also commentated during the Louis Vuitton Cup in Valencia in 2007 working with ACM Radio and Sky TV.

A professional boat builder by trade, Mark has worked in the marine industry and campaigned boats all his adult life. Mark’s Olympic teammate in Sydney 2000 was Ian Walker (skipper of Green Dragon); together they won silver in the Star class. Mark spent two years in Auckland with GBR Challenge sailing in the America’s Cup 2003-2004.

Skipper Andreas Hanakamp comments; 'Marks great personality and ability to relate to the team on the boat will be vital in building trust as he tries to capture the highs and lows onboard Team Russia during the race.'
