The 49er Class Association chose the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy venue for their 2008 National Championships.
The official 2012 sailing venue saw 35 competitors enter, including visitors from Finland, South Africa and Germany looking to make the most of the high standard of racing, which included Olympic Development Squad members and former Olympians.
Despite the high standard there was one standalone performance at the head of the fleet as Skandia Team GBR sailors John Pink and Rick Peacock sailed a near flawless regatta picking up seven race wins and two 3rd place finishes in the nine race series.
This amazing performance saw them crowned 49er National Champions a full 11 points clear of Dylan Fletcher and Alan Sign in second place. Third place was secured by the Finnish pair of Lauri Lehtinen and Heizzi Soininen a further 6 points back.
