Singapore at Byte Worlds, Weymouth

In Weymouth, the sailing venue for the 2012 London Olympic Games, six Singapore sailors are competing in the 2008 Byte World Championship.

Leading the regatta after 13 races with only 11 points is native Brit Jon Emmett, followed by 16 year old Singapore sailor Lei Feng Yi in second place with 31 points. Racing continues today with three more races to determine the winners. Last year’s runner-up Herman Nurfendi Bin Ahmad is in third position, with only seven points behind his teammate Feng Yi.

Shevaun Su-Lyn Sethi from Raffles Girls School is currently in bronze position, in 15th overall, in the girls division behind Brit Hannah Blore and Canadian Sacha Roberts.

Other Singaporeans are currently in the following positions: Ian Bryce Rezel (5th/30), Eugene Woo (7th/30), Shevaun Su-Lyn Sethi (15th/30) and Germaine Teo (18th/30).

About the Byte CII

The Byte CII is a high-performance singlehanded dinghy 12' long (3.7 m) and weighs 100 lbs (45.4 kg). In 2001, SingaporeSailing selected the Byte as its official post-Optimist youth training boat. The Byte CII is the selected equipment for the single-handed dinghy events for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

Night sailing, encountering light airs in the Transat Paprec, Congressional Cup We bundled up as the last of the rays sunlight dipped below the Olympic Mountains and night quietly fell on Puget Sound. We'd been racing for about twelve hours in the Seattle Yacht Club's Protection Island Race (April 26), and we were getting tired.
