Fast Facts on Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week -

>- $30,000 worth of cash and prizes up for grabs at Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week – 5 – 9 September 2008!

- The inaugural event was held last year with 23 yachts, this year there are already 35 registered and organisers are aiming for 40. New Zealand yacht Wired (Rob Bassett) a line honours star at Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week and will lead a quality fleet.

- Organisers are still accepting late registrations for the cruising and racing divisions!!!

- The Event is based at Peppers Blue on Blue, Magnetic Island, with four days of great racing in the Cleveland Bay waters off Magnetic Island, including an Around the Island race on Sunday.

- The Sunferries Spectator Boat will operate Saturday and Sunday of the event, offering an up close view of the racing action. Tickets $45, which includes drink on arrival, tropical lunch, commentary, competitions and prizes and drop offs throughout the day to Nelly Bay terminal.

- Social line up includes the Wolverines, local DJ and Jazz Band and events such as the Beach Party at Base Backpackers on Saturday night 6 September, $35 entry includes drink and gift on arrival, BBQ dinner and entertainment from the Wolverines.

- Tickets for the social functions are selling quickly. Functions include – Welcome to Race Week with the Townsville City Council, Sea FM Race Week Beach Party, Mt Gay Mixer (invitation only – sponsors and skippers) and the Sunferries Gala Awards Presentation Dinner.

- The Sea FM Race Week Beach Party at Base will be an event to remember with live performances by the Wolverines and a local DJ, themed gift on arrival and complimentary drink. These guys know how to throw a party!

- Coveted Mt Gay caps are up for grabs at the regatta – embroidered with Magnetic Island Race Week 2008.

- Yacht Charter is available, a brand new Jeanneau 42i. Contact organisers for more details.

- Magnetic Island local Nick Doran is the latest to register for the event. Nick is somewhat of an expert on Magnetic Island with his family owned business ‘Magnetic Informer’ distributing informative magazines/directory all along the Queensland coast. Formerly Sydney based, Nick and his family moved up to Magnetic Island searching for a sea change.

- Packages are available that include accommodation, Sunferries Spectator Boat tickets, Sea FM Race Week Beach Party at Base tickets and Sunferries tickets to Magnetic Island.
