Light winds and hazy sunshine on Fushan Bay, Qingdao for the second day of the 2008 Beijing regatta. It’s Day 2 for the Finn class and the Ynglings, today out on Course E, further seawards.

The tides had a significant affect yesterday, with big positional changes when sailors stepped on the elevator in the light wind conditions. Today with 4-7 knot winds expected, the same thing is likely to occur again.

The 19 boat 49ers fleet will be on the inshore course with the first three races planned from the 15 race schedule.

GBR’s Steve Morrison and Ben Rhodes have been the most consistent performers of the last two years and there are great expectations from the UK.

The Spanish crew, Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernandez will press them hard as will the Italian Sibello brothers. However the 2008 World Champions, Australian’s Nathan Outteridge and Ben Austin have been showing great speed in practice races and they will need careful watching.

The first races of the Day will begin at 1300 local time.
