Tom Jeffcoate and Andy Davies Scorpion Champions

by Event media on 7 Aug 2008
Champions 2008 - Tom Jeffcoate & Andy Davies - Scorpion 2010 ’Bender’ SW

With so many big names, it was bound to be a competitive week in Abersoch. Dave Wade and Ben Rayner, defending their title, John Mursell and Nick Keast former National champions and wanting their title back. And many others in for the chance for the trophy. But, it was Tom Jeffcoate and Andy Davies who won the Scorpion Nationals.

The week saw varied conditions, from amazing sunshine to huge downpours. From no wind and then to the other extreme. All in a week!

The practice race saw newcomers from the fleet John and Jamie Clementson show there potential for another name to take the title.

However, early leaders of the event were John Mursell and Nick Keast who put together a great series, certainly the most consistent! With the discards setting in after race 7, and the last day cancelled, Tom Jeffcoate and Andy Davies won the title.

Other individual battles for the top ten positions took place all week. With the weather holding the sailors back. The race team at Abersoch sailing club did a good job in very difficult conditions.

The evenings events went down with a bang. The juniors amongst the class won the gladiator evening showing age is not always wiser. Steve Graham won the dance off competition dressed in his finest frock. The fancy dress evening the most popular. Rob Smith winning the best dressed of the evening.
